For our Young Church we run a children’s session during the 10.00 am service every Sunday during term-time, except for the first Sunday of the month when we have an All-Age service. Our aim is to help the next generation to learn about God and to come to know and follow Jesus.
We invite St John’s School children to some of the All-Age services, particularly at Harvest, Christingle and Mothering Sunday. The Christmas Eve crib service is another very popular and well attended family service.
Young Church takes place in our church centre. The children start in church and go out to their Young Church session after the first song.
The children are either pre-school, in junior school or the first years of senior school. For some years now we have run two groups, Rockets and Sparklers, using particularly the Urban Saints ‘Energize’ materials, but also the Scripture Union ‘Tiddlywinks’ materials, which make learning about Jesus fun.
We provide a crèche for babies and toddlers in the church centre alongside the Sparklers group.
We are into our seventh year of Messy Church services – usually running two a year. These involve about an hour of craft in the church centre, based on a theme, which is then expanded in a short worship service in church and is followed by a buffet meal back in the centre.
