What if you want your life to have more meaning and purpose?
With God it will…
Ever wondered what life is all about? Things happen that don’t really make any sense. Why do we do the things we do in lifedo they have any purpose or meaning? Who cares what we do anyway?
It all comes down to who we are living our lives for. If we live life for our own pleasure and satisfaction then any meaning or purpose is only very short-lived. We soon find ourselves craving something else to fill the gap because worldly goods always fail to satisfy us completely for any length of time.
It is easy to live from day to day and fall into a general routine which doesn’t question why we do what we do. If we live life like this what meaning or purpose will it ever have? After all, each of us is only here for a snapshot of time in the history of the universe. But what happens when we bring God into the equation? Suddenly the balance changes and life really does take on more meaning and purpose.
If we know God, love Him and have Him at the centre of our thoughts we take on his purpose for our lives. We are guided by His values and standards. We stop living life for ourselves and look outwards to the needs of others. When we love God and experience his love for us we want others to experience that love too. We start living God’s agenda for our lives and become part of His plan for the world. We reach out in love to help make life better for one another here on earth and ultimately bring more people to know God so they have a final home in heaven too. What greater meaning or purpose can there be to life than that?
What if you want to find out more about God for your life?
Come to church this Sunday…
How do you find out more about God? How can you know what He wants to do in your life? No doubt you have lots of questions but not so many answers.
Finding out about God takes a lifetime. Even then we only have a tiny glimpse of what He is like. There is so much we will never know until we meet him in heaven. As St Paul says in I Corinthians 13 v 12 “What I know now is only partial; then it will be completeas complete as God’s knowledge of me”. But don’t let that put you off making a start!
The Bible is the first place to lookhave a look through the gospels to find out what Jesus was like when he lived in human form here on earth. Look at St Paul’s letters to the Corinthians or the Romans to get some guidance on living your life today. Times change but human needs and emotions don’t so you’ll find most of the teaching as relevant today as it was in Bible times.
Come and join us at St John’s where we are all trying to find out more about God for our livesyou’ll be in good company. Chat to people here and don’t be afraid to ask questions! Take that first step and find out a bit more about God. Start on that exciting journey today.
What if you could change your life into something better?
With God you can...
Satisfied with your life as it isreally satisfied? May be not but it’s hard to make big changes though. We’re all restricted by the need to earn money to pay the bills, to eat, to sleep and keep up with a hectic schedule if we have families to look after. Or perhaps we have elderly parents to care for or a business to run. It all comes down to the time we have available and our priorities in life.
What makes a real difference is who is at the centre of our lives. For many of us it is a very well known personourselves. But how would our lives change if we let God become the centre instead? Over time, life really would change into something better. With God in the driving seat our priorities and values become different. Instead of daily working for our own ends and desires to be met we will look to God to set the agenda instead. We will become less self-centred and more aware of the needs of others. Our attitudes and activities will change as we seek to please God our creator and that is when our lives really can take a new direction.
To let our lives really change we honestly have to let God sit at the very centre. His power will then radiate outwards and really start to change things in a positive way. Why not let God sit where He really wants to be in your life, not somewhere outside or only on the very edge but in the absolute centre? Be prepared for an exciting new journey as he changes YOUR life into something better!

What if you could be forgiven and start life afresh?
With God you can...
What does it really mean to say sorry? Too often we say “sorry” just to get ourselves off the hook and we don’t really stop and think if we really mean it.
The truth is that whatever mistakes we have made in our lives, whatever we have done wrong, God is prepared to forgive us in a very profound and loving way. Unfortunately, the human race chose the path of sin back in the Garden of Eden, when Eve chose to eat the forbidden fruit. Sin then came in and spoilt our relationship with God our creator. But God loved us so much he was not prepared to sit back and let that soured relationship continue. He sent Jesus, his only Son, to pay the penalty for our sin by dying on the cross.
What does this mean for us today? Amazingly it means that whatever we have done, however far short of God’s standards we have fallen, God is waiting to forgive us completely. If we repent of what we have done wrong, He will wipe our slate clean. Like the fresh new dawn of a summer’s day we can start afresh as if we have never sinned before. How truly amazing is God’s love? One thing is for certainit knows no boundaries...

Does God really exist and how do we know there is a God?
The truthful answer is that we cannot know for certain. We cannot prove the existence of God, nor can he be disproved. However, there are many reasons why belief in God is reasonable.
The first is that nothing science has discovered explains the existence of the universe. Yet the universe has a beauty and an order that suggest a rational mind lies behind it all. Just as the existence of a computer demonstrates there is someone who invented it, so the world in all its beautiful complexity points to the existence of a Creator, God.
A second reason is that within the heart of man there is a capacity to love and a desire to be loved. Christians point to that and say it indicates that there is a power of love in the world, which many people call God.
Another reason is that in every part of the world today and throughout history, men and women have always believed and worshipped God. Some people have said that in every person there is a “God-shaped hole” that only God can fill.
The existence of that desire to pray and to believe and talk with God is one argument for God’s existence. There are lots more reasons why people believe in God.
If it is reasonable to accept (as millions do world-wide) that God does exist, shouldn’t you at the very least explore that possibility and think about what that means for you and how it might affect the way you live and how you view today’s world?
Here at Saint John’s Church, there are plenty of people who would happy to talk about how they came to believe in God, and how this has affected their lives.
